Seattle Storm center Awa Fam has been selected to represent Spain at the 2026 FIBA Women’s World Cup, the club announced Sept. 4.
The roster selection gives Fam her first senior-level FIBA World Cup appearance. It is a selection announcement, not a report of a tournament result, but it adds an international milestone to the rookie’s opening professional season.
Seattle production at the time of the announcement
The Storm said Fam was averaging 10.3 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 27.6 minutes per game. The No. 3 overall pick in the 2026 WNBA Draft was shooting 45.1% from the field and 35.5% from three-point range.
Seattle also said she led WNBA rookies in both rebounds and offensive rebounds, at 5.7 and 1.9 per game, respectively, while ranking second among rookies in blocks at 0.9 per game. Those rankings describe the snapshot supplied in the Sept. 4 release rather than a final-season total.
From youth teams to the senior stage
Fam previously won silver medals with Spain’s youth national teams at the 2023 U19 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup and the 2022 U17 edition, according to Seattle. The Berlin selection moves her international résumé to the senior World Cup level.
The two stages are distinct. Her youth medals document an earlier national-team record; the new selection is her first senior World Cup opportunity.
The World Cup window
The Storm said the 2026 FIBA Women’s World Cup would be held in Berlin from Sept. 4 through Sept. 13 and would include 16 national teams. Spain was scheduled to open against Germany on Sept. 4.
For Seattle, the confirmed news is the selection itself. Fam’s early rebounding work provides useful Storm context, while her tournament performance remains separate from the roster announcement that earned her this first senior World Cup chance.
